He has regularly been a featured speaker at developer conferences. And he has a popular blog on software development and open source. Thoughts and Writings.[2]  
  
As a freelance developer he started his work in open source for the German Ubuntu community portal "ubuntuusers".[\[3\]](#cite-id-so3isryo2xq)  
  
There, he used the Python programming language and wrote the first implementations for WSGI with the aim to write a Python bulletin board together with Georg Brandl, which was to be called "Pocoo".[\[4\]](#cite-id-s8fvly9o6ob)

He is the creator of the CMS Lektor.
