Giancarlo Devasini was born in Turin in 1964 and pursued a medical degree at the University of Milan, where he graduated in 1990. His initial career path led him to become a plastic surgeon, practicing for two years before leaving the industry due to dissatisfaction with the profession, in 1992. In 1997, he became the founder of Solo SpA, a company that sorted, rated, and resold products from leading DRAM companies, Micron Technology and Taiwan Semiconductor. Following the success of his company, Solo became the parent company of multiple subsidiaries including, Compass Srl in 1999, Alcosto SpA in 2000, Freshbit SpA in 2002, and Acme SpA in 2004.
