**Rare Friends** is a [non-fungible token (NFT)](https://iq.wiki/wiki/non-fungible-token-nft) project built on [Robinhood Chain](https://iq.wiki/wiki/robinhood-chain) in which digital collectibles — styled as virtual pets or "friends" — hold their own crypto wallets and accrue rewards from activity in the protocol's economy.[\[1\]](#cite-id-1ibsop6i1l) Established in 2026, the project is powered by the $RAREFRIENDS token (shorthand RF) and organizes its economy around two NFT collections whose active members share protocol rewards in proportion to a per-NFT "reward weight."[\[1\]](#cite-id-1ibsop6i1l)[\[2\]](#cite-id-kzglf191xf)

## Overview

Rare Friends describes itself as offering "digital friends whose wallets collect crypto."[\[1\]](#cite-id-1ibsop6i1l) The system is built from one token and two NFT collections, with the token used to power the economy and active [NFTs](https://iq.wiki/wiki/non-fungible-token-nft) sharing its rewards.[\[2\]](#cite-id-kzglf191xf) The project's reward assets are RF (the RAREFRIENDS token) and [WETH](https://iq.wiki/wiki/weth-wrapped-eth), or wrapped [ETH](https://iq.wiki/wiki/ether-eth), a tokenized form of Ether that can circulate within [smart-contract](https://iq.wiki/wiki/smart-contract) applications.[\[2\]](#cite-id-kzglf191xf)

At launch the project positioned itself around a public token distribution, inviting users to "join the RAREFRIENDS fair launch," a model in which a token is released without a privileged pre-sale allocation.[\[3\]](#cite-id-r9ush9iys2) As of the project's public materials, the contract address had not yet been published, with the site stating that the "RAREFRIENDS CA coming soon."[\[3\]](#cite-id-r9ush9iys2) The project is tagged on data aggregators under the categories [NFT](https://iq.wiki/wiki/non-fungible-token-nft) and NFT Collection.[\[1\]](#cite-id-1ibsop6i1l)

## NFT Collections

Rare Friends is organized around two distinct collections that play different roles in the reward economy.[\[2\]](#cite-id-kzglf191xf)

### Rare Friends Genesis

Rare Friends Genesis is the founding collection, capped at 1,024 [NFTs](https://iq.wiki/wiki/non-fungible-token-nft).[\[2\]](#cite-id-kzglf191xf) According to the project, Genesis pieces mint free and the collection "cannot be recreated."[\[1\]](#cite-id-1ibsop6i1l) The Rare Friends Genesis collection is listed as verified on the NFT marketplace [OpenSea](https://iq.wiki/wiki/opensea).[\[4\]](#cite-id-py9su4kkzn)

Activating a Genesis NFT grants it a fixed reward weight, allowing it to collect protocol-activity fees at a higher rate than other positions.[\[2\]](#cite-id-kzglf191xf)[\[1\]](#cite-id-1ibsop6i1l) Activation costs 100,000 RF.[\[3\]](#cite-id-r9ush9iys2) A Genesis can also be converted one-way into a fixed amount of RAREFRIENDS: when conversion is enabled and the market is open, the process requires 100,000 RF upfront and returns 1,000,000 RF.[\[1\]](#cite-id-1ibsop6i1l)[\[3\]](#cite-id-r9ush9iys2) On conversion, the Genesis moves to a holding pool the project calls the "reserve," a transfer that includes control of its [wallet](https://iq.wiki/wiki/cryptocurrency-wallet), wallet assets, unclaimed rewards, and all future rewards.[\[3\]](#cite-id-r9ush9iys2)

### Generations by Rare Friends

Generations by Rare Friends is the expanding collection, contrasted with the fixed Genesis set.[\[2\]](#cite-id-kzglf191xf) Owners can "hardwire" a Friend into a permanent [NFT](https://iq.wiki/wiki/non-fungible-token-nft) and then promote or upgrade it to increase its reward weight.[\[2\]](#cite-id-kzglf191xf) The collection is governed by a lifecycle of temporary and permanent states described in the project's protocol mechanics.

## Mechanics

The project distinguishes several actions a user can take, which together determine whether and how an [NFT](https://iq.wiki/wiki/non-fungible-token-nft) earns rewards.[\[3\]](#cite-id-r9ush9iys2)

The "Hold" mechanic is balance-dependent: a balance of at least 1 RAREFRIENDS qualifies the holder for a temporary Generation, meaning the Friend's status persists only while the required balance is maintained.[\[3\]](#cite-id-r9ush9iys2) The "Hardwire" mechanic makes this permanent — spending RAREFRIENDS creates a permanent Generations NFT with its own individual [wallet](https://iq.wiki/wiki/cryptocurrency-wallet) and activates its reward weight, producing a transferable [NFT](https://iq.wiki/wiki/non-fungible-token-nft) with an active reward position.[\[3\]](#cite-id-r9ush9iys2)

Once a Generation exists, holders can strengthen its earning position through promotion or tier upgrades. Promotion moves a Generation one level earlier and charges the difference between the two token denominations; it increases reward weight but resets the tier to 0.[\[3\]](#cite-id-r9ush9iys2) A tier upgrade, by contrast, increases reward weight within the same generation without resetting it.[\[3\]](#cite-id-r9ush9iys2)

## Reward Economy

Rewards in Rare Friends are drawn from the fees generated by user activity and are directed to active [NFTs](https://iq.wiki/wiki/non-fungible-token-nft) by weight rather than to token holders generally.[\[2\]](#cite-id-kzglf191xf) The protocol allocates payments through a set of fixed rules that determine how much RF is burned, how much is recycled as rewards, and how [WETH](https://iq.wiki/wiki/weth-wrapped-eth) rewards accumulate.

When a user activates, hardwires, promotes, or upgrades, the payment is split evenly: 50% of the RF is burned and 50% becomes RF rewards.[\[2\]](#cite-id-kzglf191xf) When RF is traded in the protocol's own market, a 5% fee on the [WETH](https://iq.wiki/wiki/weth-wrapped-eth) side is directed to WETH rewards, drawing on fees from the [automated market maker (AMM)](https://iq.wiki/wiki/automated-market-maker), the on-chain mechanism that prices and executes trades against a [liquidity pool](https://iq.wiki/wiki/liquidity-pool).[\[2\]](#cite-id-kzglf191xf)[\[3\]](#cite-id-r9ush9iys2) When the Genesis reserve is used, 100% of the RF fee goes to RF rewards.[\[2\]](#cite-id-kzglf191xf)

Allocated rewards do not pay out all at once. They stream over seven days to active reward positions in proportion to each NFT's weight, with the project's weekly reward period defined as Monday through Sunday in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).[\[3\]](#cite-id-r9ush9iys2) Each [NFT](https://iq.wiki/wiki/non-fungible-token-nft) accrues its rewards into its own [wallet](https://iq.wiki/wiki/cryptocurrency-wallet); a holder claims those rewards into the NFT's wallet and then withdraws from that wallet through the portfolio interface.[\[2\]](#cite-id-kzglf191xf)[\[3\]](#cite-id-r9ush9iys2)

Because rewards accrue to the Friend rather than the owner, transferring an [NFT](https://iq.wiki/wiki/non-fungible-token-nft) has direct financial consequences. Selling an NFT transfers control of its wallet assets and any unclaimed rewards to the buyer, and a direct transfer stops the NFT's future earnings until the new owner reactivates it.[\[2\]](#cite-id-kzglf191xf) The project uses the terms "Generation," "Genesis," "reserve," "reward weight," "active reward positions," "wallet assets," "unclaimed rewards," and "future rewards" as the core concepts of this economy, and notes that current contract state determines market and reserve availability, balances, and claimable rewards at any given time.[\[3\]](#cite-id-r9ush9iys2)[\[2\]](#cite-id-kzglf191xf)

## Interactive Interface

Alongside its main site, Rare Friends maintains an interactive map-style interface titled "RAREFRIENDS — the island," which presents the project's collections as districts a user can select.[\[5\]](#cite-id-q5bnb5hb63) The interface invites users to "tap a district to land on it" and references the project's categories, including Genesis and Generations pieces.[\[5\]](#cite-id-q5bnb5hb63)
