## Overview

### Encrypted Messaging

Messages are also digitally signed so recipients can verify that they came from the expected sender and were not altered. Dual-Key Stealth Addressing is a privacy feature in Verge that allows senders to create unique, one-time addresses for each payment without requiring interaction with the recipient. Instead of multiple payments appearing on the [blockchain](https://iq.wiki/wiki/blockchain) as transfers to the same address, each payment is directed to a different address, making it more difficult to determine which transactions belong to a particular recipient. Verge’s Dual-Key Stealth Address Protocol uses separate scanning and spending keys, allowing a recipient’s wallet to identify payments intended for them without repeatedly exposing the private key used to spend funds. The system relies on Elliptic-Curve Diffie-Hellman (ECDH) to establish a shared secret between the sender and recipient, which can be used to generate these temporary addresses without revealing either party’s private keys.

The recipient’s wallet can scan the [blockchain](https://iq.wiki/wiki/blockchain) using its private scanning key to identify payments intended for them and then derive the corresponding private key needed to spend those funds. The recipient can also provide the scanning key and public spending key to an auditor or proxy service, allowing that service to identify relevant transactions without enabling it to spend the funds. Overall, Dual-Key Stealth Addressing is designed to prevent a recipient’s published address from being directly associated with incoming transactions while separating the ability to detect payments from the ability to spend them.
