Will Robinson is the Vice President of Engineering at Coinbase, a centralized exchange (CEX) platform for buying, selling, transferring, and storing cryptocurrencies. Will Robinson pursued his education at Stanford University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Computer Science in the years 1999 to 2003. Career
Will Robinson's career journey began at Google, where he held various roles over a span of 12 years and 5 months. Initially joining as a Principal Software Engineer in August 2004, he contributed to projects related to machine learning, ads quality, web search infrastructure, personal data management, data warehousing, and fraud detection. His work revolved around distributed systems, and he earned a promotion to Principal in early 2013. [2]
During this time, from April 2011 to August 2014, Will Robinson also served as the Engineering Site Lead in Chicago, where he was responsible for the growth and overall health of the engineering site, overseeing technical direction, team allocation, and recruiting efforts, leading to substantial team expansion. Subsequently, from June 2016 to December 2016, he served as a Senior Engineering Director, overseeing critical infrastructure efforts focused on processing and analyzing personal data. [2]
Chronicle
Following his tenure at Google, Will Robinson took on the role of Chief Technology Officer at Chronicle, an independent Alphabet company specializing in enterprise cybersecurity, from December 2016 to December 2019. In this capacity, he shaped company and product strategy while building and leading the global technical team. During his tenure, the team launched the Backstory product, generating significant business within its first quarter. [2]
ASAPP
From December 2019 to August 2021, Will served as the Chief Technology Officer at ASAPP, where he played a pivotal role in developing AI-native software for customer interactions. He was responsible for the entire technical organization, overseeing research, engineering, SRE, testing, QA, release engineering, and project management. Under his leadership, ASAPP became operational at various Fortune 500 companies, broadened its range of services, and enhanced operational efficiency. [2][3]
Coinbase
Currently, Will Robinson serves as the Vice President of Engineering at Coinbase, a position he has held since September 2021. In this role, he is responsible for overlooking the design and engineering of products, including Base L2, Wallet-as-a-Service, Coinbase Pay, Coinbase Commerce, and Cloud Staking. His team is also responsible the blockchain platforms that power Coinbase's products, covering core cryptographic primitives, yield, staking, wallet infrastructure, and asset addition and maintenance. Additionally, he serves on the board of Unit 410, a Coinbase subsidiary. [2]
