Mohammad Emad Mostaque was born in Jordan to a Bengali Muslim family. He moved to the United Kingdom at age seven.

Mostaque earned a Master of Arts (MA) in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Oxford before beginning a career as a hedge fund manager.

Mostaque co-founded Stability AI, the company that would later fund the development and release of the popular text-to-image model, Stable Diffusion.

Mostaque resigned from his role as CEO and from the board of Stability AI, stating his intention to pursue decentralized AI amid reports of investor pressure.
