Interviews

Shariah-Compliant Tech

In a March 2026 interview at Web Summit Qatar, Ahmed discussed Fasset’s development as a digital financial platform serving markets across the Islamic fintech sector, with a focus on leveraging data, crypto assets, and real-world assets to provide financial services. He described opportunities for growth through tokenized assets such as gold and Islamic bonds, as well as potential Sharia-compliant lending products backed by tokenized assets, while noting challenges around differing Sharia standards, regulation, funding, and customer acquisition. Ahmed also discussed artificial intelligence as a tool to improve financial services and reduce customer acquisition and screening costs, rather than as a threat to the sector. He highlighted the role of AI in ethical and Sharia screening by processing large volumes of company data and assessing factors such as business activities, ESG considerations, and human rights, while arguing that ethical investment principles can be compatible with financial returns. Borderless Finance

In a December 2025 interview on the Pakistan & Counting podcast, Ahmed discussed the development of blockchain and digital asset infrastructure in Pakistan and other emerging markets, with a focus on tokenization, stablecoins, and digital banking. He explained how tokenization can provide access to assets such as stocks, bonds, real estate, and gold while relying on regulated entities, custodians, independent advisers, and physical or other verifiable backing to establish ownership and security. Ahmed also discussed the potential for tokenized real-world assets to improve liquidity and enable secondary markets, citing ongoing regulatory work in Dubai on real estate tokenization. He described stablecoins such as USDC as a means to facilitate faster cross-border payments and discussed broader blockchain applications in areas including supply chain management and industrial asset management. The interview also addressed the growth of blockchain adoption in markets affected by currency volatility and limited financial access, with Ahmed emphasizing regulation, practical use cases, and ease of use as important factors in broader adoption.
