Eunice Giarta is the COO and co-founder of Monad, a parallel EVM blockchain providing portability and performance. [1]
Giarta graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2013 with an S.B. in Computer Science and Engineering and a minor in Management Science and Finance. During her undergrad, she worked as a research assistant for the MIT Media Lab. She also met Keone Hon during her time at MIT. [1]
Giarta started her tech career as lead designer at Shoppley in 2011. She later interned at Bank of America Merrill Lynch as a rates derivatives trader and analyst from 2013 to 2014. After graduating from MIT, she worked at Broadway Technology and held various positions, including business development and senior product manager, until August 2017. [1]
In 2017, Giarta worked as a senior product manager at Shutterstock, a global licensing platform, until March 2019. In April 2019, she was chef de partie at Jean-Georges Management, an international restaurant group, until March 2020. In June, she founded Euna Creative, LLC, and served as creative director. She later co-founded Monad Labs alongside Keone Hon and James Hunsaker in February 2022. [1]
On March 20th, 2024, Giarta appeared on The Pipeline Podcast and discussed the recent launch of Monad's Devnet, marking a significant milestone showcasing a fully functioning blockchain environment. She explained Monad's unique approach to measuring transactions per second (TPS), which used real, recent Ethereum data for more accurate performance metrics. Devnet was an internal tool, with a public Testnet planned as the next step. Over the preceding 16 months, Monad had experienced significant growth, focusing on engineering, business development, and community engagement, including plans for hackathons and other community events. [2]
At ETHDenver 2024, Giarta presented Monad's two key optimizations for blockchain execution: asynchronous and parallel execution. The concept of superscalar pipelining was presented through a relatable analogy of laundry tasks, emphasizing its efficiency in resource utilization. Asynchronous execution addressed the bottleneck caused by interleaved execution in current blockchains by separating consensus from execution, allowing transactions to be executed independently. Parallel execution aimed to maximize transaction throughput by concurrently executing transactions using available resources, employing techniques like optimistic concurrency control and software transactional memory to resolve conflicts. [3]
At TOKEN2049 Singapore, Giarta discussed Monad's focus on introducing superscalar pipelining to enhance performance and accelerate Ethereum through their L1 solution. She emphasized addressing the MEV problem, particularly bad MEV, through their unique consensus mechanism called delegated BFT. She highlighted their efforts to simplify user experiences and security, with a keen interest in building Layer 2 solutions for the Bitcoin ecosystem and improving fiat-to-crypto transactions. She underscored the importance of payment gateways as a pivotal entry point for mainstream users into Web3 while advocating for a responsible and autonomous culture among crypto participants. [4]
At ETHDenver’s Liquidity Day panel, Giarta emphasized the importance of building protocols prioritizing user value and differentiation to achieve significant innovation. She highlighted the need to create a friendly environment for liquidity, employing strategies such as airdrops and staking incentives. Additionally, Giarta underscored the critical role of community building, developer engagement, and real-life interaction in attracting and retaining users. She also touched upon the significance of maintaining a product-market fit and generating organic traction to ensure the long-term success of protocols. [5]
