Education
Lee Sirgoo earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in East Asian History from Seoul National University in 1988. He then pursued a Master of Arts degree in History (China) from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where he was a fellowship recipient from East-West Center, and attended the university from 1989 to 1991. From 1994 to 1997, Lee attended Lewis & Clark Law School and obtained a Juris Doctor degree in Law. While at the law school, he was a member of the Cornelius Honor Society, the Law Review (Environmental Law), and graduated cum laude. [2]
Career
Lee Sirgoo's career spans over several decades, beginning with his role as a reporter for Joong-Ang Il-Bo (Central Daily News) from November 1992 to July 1994. During this time, he wrote news articles on Seoul metro news, China, and international economy for one of Korea's largest national newspapers. [3]
Following this, Sirgoo worked as an Associate Attorney at Holland & Knight LLP's Portland Office from October 1997 to December 1998. In this role, he provided legal assistance to clients and reviewed legal documents. [3]
After his stint at Holland & Knight, Sirgoo began his career at IBM Korea, Inc. as a Staff Attorney in February 1999. He stayed in the organization for five years and four months, providing legal review and assistance to the Korea sales organization. From January 2004 to May 2004, Sirgoo was Staff Counsel for IBM Asia-Pacific HQ, providing legal assistance for AP HQ. [3]
In May 2004, Sirgoo joined NHN Corporation as VP & General Counsel, serving in this position for three years and two months. He was responsible for providing legal guidance to the company's senior executives and employees on various legal matters. [3]
Sirgoo's next role was as the Director of Overseas Business Development at NHN USA, where he worked from July 2007 to December 2009. In this position, he was responsible for developing new business opportunities for NHN Corporation in the US market. [3]
In January 2010, Sirgoo became the CEO of NHN USA, serving in this position for two years and two months. In December 2015, he joined JOINS, Inc. as Co-CEO of the online news service company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Joong-ang Ilbo. Sirgoo served in this role for one year and ten months. [3]
Sirgoo's next role was as Co-CEO of Kakao Corporation, where he served from August 2011 to November 2015. In this position, he played a crucial role in developing KakaoTalk, a popular messaging app in South Korea, into a platform offering various services such as mobile payment, online shopping, and taxi-hailing. Finally, in January 2018, Sirgoo Lee became the CEO of Dunamu. He is currently serving in this role, responsible for leading the company's growth strategy and expanding its market share. [3]
