Justin Thaler received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Harvard University, where he was advised by Professor Michael Mitzenmacher.

Thaler joined the computer science faculty at Georgetown University as an Associate Professor, focusing on algorithms, complexity theory, and cryptography.

Thaler announced that he would join Andreessen Horowitz's crypto division (a16z crypto) as a Research Partner, while retaining his tenured position at Georgetown.

Thaler and his collaborators introduced the Lasso and Jolt research projects, a new approach to designing and building high-performance SNARKs for zkVMs.

Thaler authored the textbook "Proofs, Arguments, and Zero-Knowledge," an accessible introduction to the theoretical foundations of ZK proofs.
