Eugene Shen is the Chief Technical Officer (CTO) at Plume Network, a modular RWA (Real World Asset) chain focused on asset tokenization and blockchain integration. [1] [3]
Shen graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Engineering Physics. [2]
Shen began his software engineering career at Robinhood in 2020, working on infrastructure and product features during rapid platform growth. His time there gave him experience scaling consumer-facing fintech applications in a regulated environment.
In early 2022, Shen joined dYdX as a senior software engineer. At dYdX, he contributed to developing decentralized derivatives trading infrastructure, worked on high-performance blockchain systems, and developed smart contract systems. His work at dYdX further immersed him in the technical challenges of DeFi.
Following this, Shen moved to Beluga in 2023, where he focused on engineering efforts tied to product development in the crypto space. His contributions spanned backend systems and blockchain integrations, helping Beluga navigate the complexities of Web3 infrastructure.
In 2024, Shen co-founded Plume Network and took on the role of CTO. Based in the New York City area, he now leads all technical aspects of the project, leveraging his experience across fintech, DeFi, and decentralized systems to build infrastructure that brings real-world assets on-chain. [1] [2]
On May 29, 2025, Plume Network announced the passing of its co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Eugene Shen.
The announcement, made via the network's official X account, did not disclose the cause of death but indicated that it was sudden. The team expressed their condolences, stating;
"We’re in shock. Eugene was brilliant, deeply curious, and brought so much talent and heart to everything he did. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones." [4]
Shen played a pivotal role in shaping Plume Network.Under his technical leadership, the network achieved significant milestones, including raising $30 million in funding and onboarding over 180 projects to its ecosystem. Plume Network also garnered support from major firms like Binance’s YZi Labs and Apollo Global.
Following the announcement of Shen's death, the Plume token experienced a sharp decline, dropping over 10% within an hour. Trading volume surged by 46%, reaching nearly $35.5 million, as traders reacted to the news. The token's price fell from $0.157 to $0.143 in approximately 80 minutes, reflecting the market's response to the unexpected loss of a key figure in the project. [5]
