Monerium was founded by Gísli Kristjánsson, Hjörtur Hjartarson, Jón Helgi Egilsson, and Sveinn Valfells to bridge fiat money and blockchains.

Monerium raised $2 million in a seed funding round led by Crowberry Capital, with participation from ConsenSys and Hof Holdings.

Monerium was granted a full license to operate as an electronic money institution (EMI) by the Financial Supervisory Authority of the Central Bank of Iceland.
