Brent Perreault is a software engineer who specializes in financial technology (FinTech) and blockchain systems. He is a Senior Staff Software Engineer at Paxos, where he contributes to the development of large-scale financial infrastructure and leads smart contract development. Perreault's career path includes a transition from academic research in physics, culminating in a Ph.D., to senior engineering and management positions within the technology sector. [1]
Perreault earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics and Physics from Concordia College in 2012. During his undergraduate studies, he was active in both tutoring and research roles. He continued his postgraduate education at the University of Chicago, where he received a Master of Science degree in Physics in 2013. He completed his formal education at the University of Minnesota, earning a Ph.D. in Physics in 2016. His doctoral research was focused on the field of condensed matter physics. [3]
Perreault began his career in academic and technical roles, working as a math tutor at Concordia College’s Academic Enhancement and Writing Center from 2009 to 2011. During this period, he also served as a research assistant at Concordia College, focusing on quantum mechanics research and educational simulations, and completed an internship at Microsoft, developing internal tools. From 2012 to 2013, he worked as a teaching assistant at the University of Chicago, leading discussions and labs in physics courses, before becoming a research assistant at the University of Minnesota from 2013 to 2016, where he conducted research in condensed matter physics.
In 2016, Perreault co-founded Triple.io, working on computer vision systems, and later served as lead engineer at Claire.co, developing conversational and data-driven applications. In 2017, he joined Paxos as a full-stack engineer in New York, transitioning into blockchain-related development. At Paxos, he held progressively senior engineering roles, including senior software engineer from 2018 to 2020 and staff software engineer from 2020 to 2021, working on financial infrastructure and blockchain-based systems. He served as engineering manager from 2021 to 2023, before returning to an individual contributor role as staff software engineer from 2023 to 2025. In 2025, he was promoted to senior staff software engineer, continuing his work on financial and blockchain technologies. [4]
