Luis Carbajo is an industrial engineer, entrepreneur, and CEO of Vottun, a platform in Web3 APIs providing developer tools to adopt blockchain technology, improving current business processes and creating new business models. [1][2]
Carbajo graduated from the Universitat Politecnica de Valencia with a Master’s in Industrial Engineering in 1997. He later attended the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan and received his MBA in 2005. [1]
Carbajo began his career at LAIEX, S.L., managing operations for new industrial projects, optimizing production capacity, and implementing quality systems. He then worked at Britax, managing a plant in Spain. From 2000 to 2003, he served as engagement manager at Kappa Group, leading projects for clients such as PSA Peugeot Citroën, where he launched a new car model across Europe. In 2004, he completed consulting projects for Borders and Tyco International, evaluating market entry strategies and outsourcing operations. Carbajo joined Amazon in 2005, managing customer advocacy teams and identifying process improvements. From 2010 to 2012, he led European marketing strategy at Vistaprint, improving P&L performance and managing mergers and acquisitions. He then became CEO of SoloStocks, overseeing its growth in international markets from 2012 to 2019. He also served as a business angel and advisor for several startup ventures from 2011 to 2016. Since 2019, he has been CEO of Vottun, a blockchain solutions company, and holds board member roles at SoloStocks and the Asociación de Empresas de Blockchain. Additionally, from 2021 to 2022, he coordinated the Catalonia blockchain ecosystem for Alastria. [3]
In a recent AMA, Carbajo discussed the Vottun's recent developments and plans. Over the summer, the team focused on growing their community and enhancing Vottun's ecosystem. They launched Vottun Dojo, a play-to-earn game that gained significant traction, leading to discussions of spinning it off as a separate project. Additionally, new features were introduced, including open projects that allow community members to participate in project development. Carbajo also mentioned plans for a hackathon in Barcelona, upcoming token launches, and the strategic alignment of Vottun's tokens with market conditions. Despite some delays due to market fluctuations, the team remains optimistic about future developments. [4]
In May 2023, Carbajo participated in Vottun’s first AMA session, reflecting on the company’s activities for the month. Vottun was involved in several high-profile events, starting with the Avalands global event in Barcelona, where they engaged with the Avalanche community. Later, Carbajo and a colleague attended an investor-focused event in San Francisco hosted by Tim Draper, meeting industry leaders. The team also traveled to Buenos Aires to attend a Stellar blockchain event and launched a payment solution for the local tourism sector to address currency exchange issues. Throughout the session, Carbajo emphasized Vottun's mission to simplify blockchain adoption through its platform, which enables developers to create blockchain solutions without complex technical knowledge. He also discussed future plans, including the launch of Vottun’s own token and fostering a growing developer community through initiatives like hackathons. [5]
In an interview with SerpGuru, Carbajo discussed his background, starting with his education in industrial engineering in Spain and his move to the U.S. for a master's degree. He shared his experience working at Amazon in a global role before transitioning to entrepreneurship. Carbajo co-founded Vottun, a blockchain traceability platform driven by his desire to move away from corporate politics and engage in more hands-on work. He likened blockchain’s potential impact to the early days of the internet, highlighting its ability to transform how value and data are transferred. Vottun focuses on helping companies track and trace important data using blockchain technology for various business processes. He also discussed challenges, such as early co-founder disagreements and Vottun’s achievements, including multiple awards. Looking ahead, Carbajo outlined plans to expand into the U.S. market with a new funding round. [6]
Carbajo participated in a panel discussion on the challenges and opportunities in onboarding Web2 developers into Web3 through improved developer tooling. Other panelists included Eiman Abdelmoneim, Eda Akturk, and Francesco Andreoli. They shared insights on the differences between Web2 and Web3 development. They emphasized that the main challenges are breaking the negative perception of blockchain, simplifying entry points, and demonstrating practical uses of Web3 technology beyond speculative crypto. Gamified learning experiences, such as providing challenges and templates, were highlighted as effective strategies to engage developers. They also discussed the importance of sustainable developer ecosystems, supported by tokenized platforms, job opportunities, and real-world use cases to retain and grow the developer community. [7]
At Meridian 2023, Carbajo discussed Vottun's participation in the fintech sandbox launched by the Central Bank of Spain in 2021. Vottun developed a cross-border intercompany payments solution using Stellar’s blockchain to improve corporate treasury workflows by bypassing traditional banking systems. The solution offered faster, more efficient payments with enhanced transparency and auditability. Throughout the project, Vottun collaborated closely with the central bank and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance, focusing on anti-money laundering (AML) practices and data privacy (GDPR). By 2022, the project was approved for use with corporate clients. [8]
