Varun Srinivasan is a Co-Founder of Farcaster, a decentralized platform designed for constructing social networks within the Web3 ecosystem. [1][2][3]
Varun Srinivasan attended Carnegie Mellon University and studied for a B.S. degree in Information Systems from 2006 to 2010. He was also a Y Combinator fellow in 2013. [1]
In October 2010, Varun joined Microsoft as the PM for OneNote until May 2013. In June 2013, he co-founded SoundFocus[4], a San Francisco, CA-based startup creating personalized mobile audio products. [1]
In April 2015, Varun joined Coinbase as a Software Engineer. By November 2018, he had moved to the role of Senior Director of the platform. He left Coinbase in October 2019. [1]
In October 2020, Varun Srinivasan co-founded Farcaster alongside Dan Romero. Farcaster is described in its own documentation, as a "sufficiently decentralized social network built on Ethereum." [1][3]
It is a decentralized protocol designed specifically for building and connecting social apps. It aims to create a censorship-free environment where users have full control over their data and audience. To achieve this, Farcaster employs a sufficiently decentralized network architecture that lets users control their social graph and enables them to interact with various apps on the network via a single identity. [3]
On January 26, 2024, daily active users on Farcaster surged following the launch of a new feature, Frames. Frames turn Farcaster-based posts into interactive mini-apps, allowing users to mint NFTs, play games, and use instant checkouts directly from their social feed without leaving the platform. [5][1]
