Artela

Artela is a blockchain platform that aims to revolutionize the Web3 ecosystem through its innovative EVM++ technology. The project focuses on providing developers with enhanced tools and capabilities for building decentralized applications (dApps) and exploring new possibilities in blockchain development.[1]

Overview

Artela was officially founded at the end of 2022. Artela positions itself as a next-generation blockchain platform, designed to address the limitations of existing blockchain infrastructures. By introducing the concept of EVM++ (an enhanced version of the Ethereum Virtual Machine), Artela seeks to provide developers with flexibility, improved performance, and expanded functionality in creating blockchain-based applications.[2]

Products

Artela Blockchain

Artela Blockchain is a Layer 1 (L1) network that supports the development of decentralized applications (dApps) by providing extensibility and interoperability. It allows developers to create custom native extensions and utilizes an elastic block space architecture to accommodate scalability needs. This design helps applications adjust to varying demands, aiming to optimize performance and development flexibility. Artela Blockchain incorporates technologies such as AI, DePIN, and DeFi security.[4]

EVM++

EVM++ is an execution layer for the Ethereum Virtual Machine that focuses on enhancing blockchain extensibility and scalability. It uses EVM+WASM for native on-chain extensions and supports parallel execution to improve performance. The inclusion of a WASM virtual machine within an EVM-compatible network allows for dynamic on-chain extensions through Aspect programming, enabling the development of high-performance protocols and modular dApps with customizable features.[5]

During the DevNet and Public Testnet phases, developers identified use cases for EVM++, such as executing AI algorithms onchain with WASM, creating programmable on-chain AI agents, and implementing real-time security modules for DeFi protocols.[5]

Artela's network architecture supports parallel execution, processing transactions concurrently based on dependency analysis. It combines parallel execution with elastic computing to manage block space efficiently, allowing validator nodes to scale horizontally and adjust computation resources according to network demand.[5]

Aspect Programming

Aspect Programming is a comprehensive programming framework that facilitates the dynamic creation of native extension modules for blockchains during runtime. It offers a universal stack that can be utilized by all chains to develop extension modules, thereby enhancing dApp functionality.[3] Native Extensions act as programmable on-chain modules that integrate with smart contracts to enhance dApp modularity and functionality, allowing for a plug-and-play approach to building applications.[6]

Artela Testnet

Artela launched its Public Testnet in September 2023, focusing on extensibility and innovation in blockchain technology. The testnet was divided into three phases: functionality testing, performance testing, and pre-launch preparation. These phases aimed to test network functionality, evaluate scalability, and prepare for the mainnet launch. Key features included WASM Runtime, Parallel EVM, and Aspect Programming, which enabled developers to build native extensions and enhance scalability. The testnet also involved collaborations with partners like Go Plus, BladeDAO, and Artex to develop use cases such as Runtime Protection Aspect, Autonomous NPC Aspect, and Session Key Aspect.[9]

Testnet Roadmap

The Testnet Roadmap consisted of three phases:

  1. Phase 1: Functionality Testing
    1. Focused on testing network functionality, including Aspect and Artela's EVM environment.
    2. Launched the Validator Program for applications.
    3. Introduced Artela EVM and enhanced Aspect Programming.
  2. Phase 2: Performance Testing
    1. Evaluated Artela's parallel EVM scalability.
    2. Conducted validator drills and refined baseline configurations.
    3. Launched the second wave of the Validator Program.
    4. Further enhanced Aspect Programming and onboarded partnerships.
  3. Phase 3: Pre-Launch Preparation
    1. Tested tokenomics and financial primitives.
    2. Configured genesis for Mainnet.
    3. Established production configurations and launched the third wave of the Validator Program.[9]

Funding

In July 2023, Artela secured a $6 million seed round to enhance its blockchain platform's scalability. The fundraising was led by Shima Capital, with participation from A&T Capital, Big Brain Holdings, SevenX Ventures, Dispersion Capital, Amino Capital, and others. This funding aimed to support the development of its EVM++ technology.[7][8]
