Tom Lee is an American financial analyst, market strategist, and investor known for co-founding Fundstrat Global Advisors and for his role as Chairman of the Board at Bitmine Immersion Technologies. He has gained prominence for his market outlook and for leading Bitmine's strategic shift to become a major corporate holder of Ethereum. [1]
Tom Lee began his career in finance in the early 1990s, working as a research associate at Kidder, Peabody & Company and later at Oppenheimer & Co. From 1997 to 1999, he was a Managing Director and Equity Research Analyst covering the wireless sector at Salomon Smith Barney. Following this, Lee spent 15 years at J.P. Morgan Chase & Co., from 1999 to 2014, where he served as the Chief US Equity Strategist and a Managing Director. In 2014, he co-founded Fundstrat Global Advisors, an independent market strategy and research firm, where he serves as Managing Partner and Head of Research. He also contributes market analysis to media outlets such as CNBC. [1] [2]
In addition to his work at Fundstrat, Lee has taken on several other roles. Since 2019, he has been the Head of Research at FSInsight, an independent research platform, and has served as a board member for the New York Asian Film Festival. In 2024, he founded Fundstrat Capital, assuming the positions of Chief Investment Officer and Portfolio Manager. His career took a significant turn toward digital assets in June 2025 when he was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors at Bitmine Immersion Technologies. In this role, he has guided the company's transformation from a Bitcoin mining operation into a major Ethereum treasury company. [1] [3]
As Chairman of Bitmine Immersion Technologies (BMNR), Tom Lee has spearheaded a corporate strategy focused on the large-scale acquisition of Ethereum. This initiative involved shifting the company's focus from Bitcoin mining to establishing Ethereum as its primary treasury reserve asset. The strategy was launched with a $250 million private placement to fund the initial purchases. This strategic pivot was followed by a significant increase in the company's stock price. [4] [1]
The company's stated goal is a plan named "Alchemy of 5%," which aims to acquire 5% of Ethereum's total circulating supply. The acquired ETH is then staked to generate rewards. Under Lee's guidance, Bitmine has made substantial purchases, including an acquisition of 78,791 ETH for $354.6 million in August 2025. By mid-September 2025, Bitmine's holdings had grown to 2,151,676 ETH, valued at approximately $9.75 billion. At that time, the company's total crypto and cash holdings were reported to be $10.8 billion, making it the largest corporate Ethereum treasury holder and the second-largest public crypto treasury company after MicroStrategy. The company has attracted backing from institutional investors such as Ark Invest, Founders Fund, Bill Miller III, Pantera, Kraken, Digital Currency Group, and Galaxy Digital. [5] [4]
Throughout his career, Lee has become known for his consistently optimistic market forecasts, earning him the nickname "permabull." One of his notable predictions occurred in 2020 when he correctly forecasted that the U.S. stock market would recover from the sharp decline caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. [1]
Lee began making public price predictions for Bitcoin in 2017. More recently, his focus has included Ethereum, for which he predicted a year-end price of $12,000 in 2025. [1]
In Seoul, South Korea, September 2025, Tom Lee appeared on Global Money Talk as Chairman of Bitmine. In the interview, he discussed the growing adoption of Ethereum by Wall Street, the functioning of corporate digital treasuries, and the factors that contributed to Bitmine becoming the world’s largest Ethereum treasury. The conversation also addressed institutional perspectives on tokenization, staking yields, and stablecoin usage.
