Alec Radford co-founded the machine learning company Indico with Slater Victoroff in their dorm room at Olin College, inspired by the AlexNet deep learning breakthrough.

As lead author, Radford published 'Improving Language Understanding by Generative Pre-Training', introducing the first GPT model and establishing the foundation for modern LLMs.

After a long tenure as a senior researcher and contributing to foundational models like GPT, CLIP, and DALL-E, Radford's departure from OpenAI was reported.

Radford became an advisor for Thinking Machines Lab, an AI startup founded by former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati.
