Adeniyi Abiodun is the Co-founder and Chief Product Officer (CPO) at Mysten Labs, the company behind the Sui blockchain. Prior to his role at Mysten Labs, he played a key part in Meta's R&D efforts, contributing to projects like the Diem Network and the Move programming language. [1][3][7]
Adeniyi Abiodun, originally from Nigeria, relocated to the UK with his family at the age of 7. After spending most of his life in London, he currently resides in San Francisco. Adeniyi earned a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Queen Mary, University of London, graduating in 2005. His secondary education took place at Wembley High School. [3][4][7]
As of January 2024, Adeniyi Abiodun serves as Co-founder and Chief Product Officer (CPO) at Mysten Labs, with a focus on contributing to foundational infrastructure for the advancement of web3 adoption. His involvement began in November 2021, aligning with Mysten Labs' mission to accelerate the adoption of web3 technologies.
Previously, Adeniyi played a key role as a Product Lead at Meta in Menlo Park, California, for over 2 years. His work involved leading various crypto infrastructure products at Facebook (Meta), including the establishment of the Novi Crypto Platform team.
Before joining Meta, Adeniyi held positions such as Head of Product for Blockchain at VMware and Architect for Blockchain Cloud Platform at Oracle. His entrepreneurial ventures include co-founding PeerNova Inc. and CloudHashing, where he aimed to contribute to product development and establish a prominent cloud mining service in the Bitcoin space. Prior to entrepreneurship, Adeniyi gained experience in senior engineering and software roles at HSBC, J.P. Morgan, Syncova Solutions, and Zencus International in London, United Kingdom.[5][3][7]
During his time at Meta, Adeniyi Abiodun was part of a team working on Libra, a project with the goal of facilitating easy and free money transfers accessible within chat messages or regular internet usage. Although the project did not launch as envisioned, the team believed they had made substantial progress technically. Recognizing the unfulfilled potential of the mission, the team, which included members like Sam Blackshear, George Danezis, and Evan Cheng, decided to contribute to the realization of their vision by actively participating in the creation of a fully decentralized infrastructure outside of Facebook.[8]
Adeniyi Abiodun, alongside four other Diem crypto project veterans from Facebook, co-founded Mysten Labs, a company developing the Sui blockchain. Founded in September 2021, Mysten Labs publicly introduced the Sui project on March 22, 2022. With a primary focus on gaming, Sui aims to enhance digital asset ownership on a public ledger, emphasizing its unique full composability for innovative collaborations. Sui, an L1 decentralized blockchain, is tailored for latency-sensitive applications, inspired by Meta Corporation's unsuccessful Diem blockchain. Utilizing a modified Move language, Sui implements a Proof-of-Stake algorithm with stacking and delegation, incorporating Narwhal and Bullshark protocols for scalability. [6][9][8] Abiodun mentioned during Sei AMA:
In terms of Sui, our goal is essentially to build a scalable Layer 1 so you can have a myriad of applications that can interact with one another in the long term.[6]
Our intuition is that if we can make a blockchain that makes it easy for builders to bring in users at very low friction and low cost, then we can bring billions of people to the ecosystem every cycle without having them go through the hoops of figuring out crypto.[6]
