Liz Martin is an American financial services executive who serves as Vice President of Product at Coinbase, where she oversees the company's Markets and Derivatives businesses. She joined Coinbase in November 2025 after a career of roughly 25 years at Goldman Sachs, where she became a partner in the firm's global markets business.[1][2] Based in New York, her appointment was presented as a central hire for Coinbase's "Everything Exchange" strategy, an effort to build a single platform spanning trading, borrowing, staking, spending, and earning.[3]
Martin earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, where she also competed in women's rowing.[2]
Martin spent the bulk of her career at Goldman Sachs, joining in December 2000 and remaining until April 2025, a tenure of about 24 years that press coverage rounded to 25 years.[2][1] She rose to become a partner in the firm's global markets business, and across her time there led initiatives spanning trading, technology, and consumer finance.[3] Within the global markets franchise she held senior electronic-trading and execution responsibilities, describing her remit as Global Head of Equities Electronic Trading and Head of EMEA Execution Services and Systematic Market Making, and she co-headed the firm's Global Inclusion and Diversity Committee.[2]
Martin also served as head of enterprise partnerships at Goldman Sachs, a consumer-finance role in which she oversaw business development, operations, and product launches in credit cards, savings, and buy-now-pay-later offerings.[1][3] One of the marquee products under that consumer-finance work was the Apple Card, issued by Goldman Sachs; in 2023 Martin publicly marked the card being named Best Co-Branded Credit Card for Customer Satisfaction with No Annual Fee in J.D. Power's U.S. Credit Card Satisfaction Study, the third consecutive year the card and issuer had received a top ranking in that study.[2]
Martin joined Coinbase in November 2025 as Vice President of Product, taking responsibility for the company's Markets and Derivatives businesses.[1][3] In announcing the hire, Coinbase said she would lead its exchanges, drive the next phase of growth for its derivatives business, and manage its global markets team, all described by the company as key pillars of its "Everything Exchange" strategy.[1] Martin framed the opportunity around institutional adoption, stating that "derivatives sit at the center of every mature market, and Coinbase has an enormous opportunity to lead this space globally as crypto markets reach institutional scale."[3]
The "Everything Exchange" is Coinbase's plan to consolidate a wide range of financial activities into a single platform where users can trade, borrow, stake, spend, and earn.[1] Planned additions to the offering have included tokenized stocks, prediction markets, and early-stage token sales, and as part of the same push Coinbase in September 2025 acqui-hired two founders of Sensible, a crypto yield-earning platform.[1]
In July 2026 Martin said she was stepping up to co-lead Coinbase's institutional efforts as Co-Head of Institutional alongside Brett Tejpaul, joining the company's executive team.[2]
In June 2026, Liz Martin, Vice President of Markets at Coinbase, appeared in a Coinbase video discussing new tools for advanced cryptocurrency traders. The presentation covered Coinbase Advanced, unified global liquidity, and the introduction of regulated crypto options.
