Sabine Roiss is a blockchain business development manager and the founder of Crypto-Play, a crypto consultant company that helps grow blockchain and GameFi projects, including forming partnerships, fundraising, and public relations. [1][2]
Roiss began her career at Salamantex in 2017, initially working as a core team member and assistant to the CEO before advancing to the head of events and business development, a role she held until January 2022. During this period, she contributed to the company's efforts to integrate crypto payment solutions for merchants. In 2018, she co-founded Berrynomics Ltd., a blockchain project development company that operated the Charry Network, where she remained until March 2022. In 2022, she joined Apcopay as a business development manager, later transitioning to a referral partner role. She then worked at FUNToken, initially as a business development manager and later as head of business development until April 2024. In January 2024, Roiss founded Crypto-Play, a Web3 and GameFi review platform where she advises on business development for Web3 projects. [1]
The AIBC Conference session on blockchain gaming and NFT adoption featured panelists discussing the challenges and opportunities in integrating blockchain technology into gaming. Panelists Wesley Ellul (Quizando), Roiss, Enrico Lugnan (Polyverse), and moderator Eugene Shakula (yard[hub]) emphasized that blockchain can simplify asset ownership for gamers, but the current focus on speculative earning models, such as "play-to-earn," has alienated traditional gamers. They highlighted that games should focus on enjoyable gameplay, with blockchain elements like NFTs being seamlessly integrated, similar to existing in-game economies. Issues like gas fees, inflationary token models, and investor mistrust of new blockchains were cited as hurdles to broader adoption. The panelists agreed that a successful transition requires shifting focus from speculation to sustainable, fun gaming experiences while educating users on security and avoiding overcomplicated terminology. At DEXT Force Festival 2023, Roiss participated in the "Challenges & Opportunities in Web3 Game Development" panel, which centered around the panelists sharing their experiences in the evolving field of blockchain-based gaming. Other panelists included Evenii Kuzin, Ramon Julia Prat, and Patxi Barrios. They reflected on the challenges of building Web3 games, particularly in gameplay, tokenomics, and user engagement. They highlighted that early Web3 games like Axie Infinity focused too much on financial incentives like "play-to-earn," leading to unsustainable economies. They agreed that future success hinges on prioritizing enjoyable gameplay over earning mechanisms, creating better onboarding processes for non-crypto users, and improving scalability. Legal and regulatory hurdles were also identified as significant challenges, with the hope that indie developers could lead innovation, though they acknowledged that larger companies might eventually dominate the space. At the SiGMA Eurasia Summit, Roiss participated in a panel that discussed the impact of technology on gaming and esports, highlighting how blockchain and NFTs are transforming the industry. Other speakers included Megan Nilsson (CryptoMegan), Dr. Andreas Mathikolonis (Quonota), Dan Khomenko (SIDUS HEROES), and Klaus Kajetski (YaLLaEsports). They shared insights on blockchain’s role in increasing transparency fairness, and allowing players to monetize in-game assets. They emphasized how new models like decentralized platforms and peer-to-peer betting are reshaping traditional systems. The challenges of onboarding gamers and brands into blockchain were noted, with suggestions to simplify technology use and focus on gameplay and community-building rather than play-to-earn models. Overall, the discussion reflected the early-stage growth of blockchain in gaming and the need for innovation and community focus to drive future success. [5]
At AIBC Malta Week, Roiss participated in the "Crypto Community in Malta" panel discussion focused on Malta’s role as a major hub for blockchain and cryptocurrency activities. Panelists included Taylor Freeman (Axon Park), Zack Ritchie (NFT Club/Ritch Studio), Jacob Camilleri (Sonar Platform), and Emilio Frangella (Aave Protocol). They discussed the strong government support for entrepreneurs, the vibrant local community, and the island's conducive environment for innovation. The conversation highlighted various projects, from decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols to NFT-based communities and metaverse applications in education. Panelists agreed that while mass adoption of crypto faces challenges such as accessibility and trust, Malta provides a collaborative space for building solutions. They also emphasized the potential of NFTs for proving ownership and the future role of Web3 in transforming education and finance. [6]
