Alex Beregszaszi
Alex Beregszaszi is a researcher and founder best known for his role as a co-author and co-lead of Solidity and a developer at the Ethereum Foundation. [1][2][3]
Education
Beregszaszi attended the University of Szeged in 2003 for an MSc. degree in Computer Science. This was a 5-year undergraduate program that led to an MSc without awarding a BSc. In 2012, he earned another MSc. degree in advanced software engineering from University College, Dublin. [2]
Career
Alex Beregszaszi started his career in 2005, as a Software Engineer at Siemens PSE Kft, then moved to the role of senior Software Engineer at 3PlayPlus until 2009. [2]
In 2006, he founded Siqon, a software consulting firm that worked with clients on creating multimedia and financial applications. Projects included browser plugins for online payments, payment gateway integrations, various video encoders, and video playback systems. He also co-founded Datira and Anesso and served as the CTO for both companies until 2010. [1][2]
In 2010, Beregszaszi joined Payzone Ireland as an embedded software engineer and moved to the role of lead systems architect (embedded) where he worked on embedded payment systems using multiple programming languages and environments including POS terminals, embedded gateways, and Windows backend services. [2]
In 2014, he co-founded Signatur, one of the first companies in Ireland to research different blockchain applications. Signatur was involved with leading financial companies in Ireland to conduct its research during the Fintech Innovation Lab and the NDRC Launchpad program. [4]
He also founded BLEND in 2015. With BLEND he was building the next generation of payment cards powered by the blockchain. [2]
Ethereum Foundation
In 2016, Beregszaszi joined the Ethereum Foundation as the lead of EWASM and co-lead of Solidity. He worked as a researcher and engineer in the EthereumJS team creating libraries such as ethereumjs-wallet and contributing heavily to ethereumjs-vm and other core packages. [1][2][3]
He also contributed to language design and compiler engineering on Solidity then later assumed a co-lead position to build the team. [2]
In 2022, he began leading research at Team Ipsilon where he focuses on researching improvements around the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). [2]
Spearbit Labs
In October 2021, Alex Beregszaszi co-founded Spearbit Labs, a platform that connects security experts to the Web3 projects that need them. [5]
He served as the CTO and CPO, leading the product development of Spearbit and its incubated company, Cantina to ensure the security of the crypto space. [5][6]
