Georgios Vlachos
Georgios Vlachos is the Co-Founder of Axelar Network, a blockchain network that connects blockchains, providing Web3 interoperability. [1][2]
Education
Georgios Vlachos received his Masters degree in Computer Science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2017, under the supervision of Professor Silvio Micali. He holds a B.SC. from
MIT, double majoring in Mathematics and Computer Science. In 2011, he was awarded a Gold Medal at the International Mathematical Olympiad (the first Greek student to achieve this distinction). [3]
Career
Algorand
Georgios Vlachos was a founding team member at Algorand, a blockchain protocol that allows anyone to build applications and transfer value on a decentralized, permissionless network. At Algorand, he was the Head of Mathematics and he was responsible for the design and development of the Algorand consensus protocol. [1][4]
Axelar
Georgios Vlachos co-founded Axelar alongside Sergey Gorbunov[5] in June 2020. Axelar Network is a decentralized transport layer that offers secure cross-chain messages across Web3. It provides a uniform cross-chain messaging solution for developers and users. Developers can utilize Axelar gateway contracts to connect to EVM contracts on any chain without making modifications to their chains or UIs. [1][2]
“Our value proposition to the developer is that they can build on the chain that best suits their use case and background, while letting their users access anything on the decentralized web, with one click,” - Georgios Vlachos. [6]
