Giancarlo Devasini is the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Bitfinex, a cryptocurrency exchange. Before his current position, he founded multiple companies in the tech/distribution sector and was also initially a plastic surgeon. [1]
Early Life
Giancarlo Devasini was born in Turin in 1964 and pursued a medical degree at the University of Milan, where he graduated in 1990. His initial career path led him to become a plastic surgeon, practicing for two years before leaving the industry due to dissatisfaction with the profession, in 1992. Despite having initial success in the field, Devasini expressed disillusionment, describing his work as the "exploitation of a whim." [2]
Career
In 1992, Giancarlo founded Point-G Srl, an electronics distribution company importing computer parts from China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan and distributing them to various countries in Europe. [1]
In 1997, he became the founder of Solo SpA, a company that sorted, rated, and resold products from leading DRAM companies, Micron Technology and Taiwan Semiconductor. Following the success of his company, Solo became the parent company of multiple subsidiaries including, Compass Srl in 1999, Alcosto SpA in 2000, Freshbit SpA in 2002, and Acme SpA in 2004. This corporation grew in size but was sold after the financial crisis in 2008. [1]
Blockchain Career
In 2012, he entered the blockchain space after discovering cryptocurrencies, initially offering DVDs and CDs for Bitcoin on a popular forum. Shortly after, in late 2012, Giancarlo met Raphael Nicolle and decided to join Bitfinex, a cryptocurrency exchange founded in 2012. Initially, he was a partner, networking with influential individuals in the space, as well as banks. Currently, he is the CFO of Bitfinex and is responsible for running trading and risk management operations. [1][2]
