Jeth Soetoyo is an Indonesian technology entrepreneur known as the Founder and CEO of Pintu, an Indonesian cryptocurrency investment application. He is also a founder of Rupiah Token (IDRT), the first stablecoin pegged to the Indonesian Rupiah. [1] [2]
Jeth Soetoyo attended school in the United States, which is where his interest in blockchain technology was first sparked. He is an alumnus of Harvard Business School, noted with the credential HBS'19. During his time in academia, he conducted research at the MIT Digital Currency Initiative, where his work focused on the valuation of crypto assets. [2] [1]
Soetoyo's career has been centered on the development and application of blockchain technology, beginning with a role at a major blockchain software company before he went on to found two significant entities in Indonesia's digital finance landscape: Rupiah Token and Pintu.
Prior to his entrepreneurial ventures, Soetoyo was a Product Lead at ConsenSys, a blockchain venture laboratory. In this role, he was responsible for leading the product development of Liquality, a cross-chain atomic swap solution. This platform was designed to enable trustless swaps of digital assets across different blockchain networks, giving him early experience in blockchain interoperability and decentralized finance mechanisms. [2]
Soetoyo was a key founder of Rupiah Token (IDRT), established under the legal entity PT Rupiah Token Indonesia around 2019. The project was created to be the first and most widely adopted stablecoin backed 1:1 by the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). The founding team also included Anthony Thio, Purwoko, Evan Leonardi, and Fengkie Junis. The Rupiah Token project was built as a fiat-collateralized stablecoin, where each circulating token is backed by an equivalent amount of physical Indonesian Rupiah held in reserve in an Indonesian bank account. Following his work with Rupiah Token, Soetoyo founded Pintu, an Indonesian mobile-native cryptocurrency wallet and trading platform, where he serves as Founder and CEO. he name Pintu is the Indonesian word for "door," reflecting the company's mission to serve as an accessible entry point into the world of crypto investing. [1]
The Pintu application was launched in April 2020. Soetoyo identified a significant gap in the Indonesian market, observing that existing cryptocurrency exchanges primarily catered to professional traders, a group he estimated to be only 1% of retail investors. Pintu was therefore designed to serve the other 99%—casual and first-time investors—with a focus on user-friendliness and simplicity, aiming for an experience comparable to using modern e-wallet or e-commerce apps.
