Liam Murphy is the Global President of Wachsman, a strategic communications and advisory firm focused on Web3, disruptive technologies, and financial services. He has been a central figure in the firm's global expansion since joining in 2017 to establish its first European office. Before his career in corporate communications, Murphy worked in public policy, holding advisory roles for the UK Cabinet Office and the European Commission. [1] [2]
Murphy attended Trinity College Dublin, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Political Science. He later pursued postgraduate studies at The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), graduating with a Master of Science in Politics and Communication with Distinction. [2] [3] [4]
Before entering the private sector, Murphy built a career in public policy and government relations in the UK and Europe. He served as a lobbyist for 'Britain Stronger in Europe,' the official campaign advocating for the UK to remain in the European Union during the 2016 Brexit referendum, which served as a basis for later work with digital assets. [2] [3]
Following the referendum, he worked as a policy advisor in the UK Cabinet Office during the government of Prime Minister David Cameron. In this role, he was part of a project at the Government Digital Service focused on influencing government departments to implement data-driven practices for societal improvement. [2] [4]
Murphy later moved to Brussels to work as a Communications Adviser to the Director of Strategy and Corporate Communication at the European Commission. His responsibilities included policy formulation and supporting the administration of an annual communications budget of €25 million. After his time in government, Murphy traveled in India, where he volunteered with Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata. [2] [3] [5]
In 2017, Murphy relocated to Dublin and joined Wachsman, a communications firm specializing in the then-emerging blockchain and cryptocurrency industries. [3]
Murphy was hired as the first employee in Europe, tasked with establishing the company’s EMEA headquarters in Dublin in late 2017. He oversaw the office's rapid development, which started with him as the sole employee. In a February 2019 interview, he reflected on the initial growth period: "When I joined (in 2017), I was the first person hired in Europe. We went from one person in a small WeWork office to a team of 35 in a 4,500 sq ft office in less than two years." [6] [7]
On August 9, 2021, Murphy was promoted to Managing Director, EMEA, and Global Head of Public Affairs. This expanded role gave him responsibility for all of Wachsman's operations and growth across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, while also being tasked with developing the firm's global public policy and public affairs services. At the time of the promotion, founder David Wachsman stated, "Liam has been instrumental to Wachsman’s growth since joining in 2017. As Managing Director, Dublin, he grew our European headquarters from a single-person operation to the largest of our three global offices in less than three years." [8]
As Managing Director of the EMEA region, Murphy was a key figure in the launch of Wachsman's London office in April 2022. He commented on the expansion, stating, "London has long been lauded as a dominant force in both fintech and crypto... As we continue on our rapid growth trajectory, it is a natural and necessary step for Wachsman to establish a presence in this critically important market." Under his leadership, Wachsman also expanded its European presence by opening an office in Geneva and acquiring a Singapore-based agency. [9] [7]
On September 18, 2025, Wachsman announced a major leadership restructuring in which Murphy was promoted from Chief Operating Officer (COO) to the newly created role of Global President. In this position, he took on responsibility for overseeing the firm’s global service delivery, leading a team of over 150 employees across its international offices, and reporting directly to Founder and CEO David Wachsman. [1]
Upon his appointment, Murphy stated:
"For more than seven years, I have had the privilege to contribute to the growth of the world's most innovative and disruptive companies... In my new role as Global President, I am excited to lead our exceptional global team as we help our clients navigate an increasingly complex and challenging commercial, technological, and geopolitical landscape." [1]
Murphy is a speaker at industry events. He was scheduled to appear at Consensus Hong Kong in February 2026 as both a speaker and a moderator for a panel titled "The New Wealth Paradigm: The Crypto Neobank Revolution," held on the Auros Mainstage. [2]
Murphy has received several industry accolades for his work in communications.
