Weber Woo
Weber Woo is a co-founder and former CEO of XT-Exchange, recognized as the first social-infused cryptocurrency exchange. He contributed to integrating social features aimed at enhancing user engagement on the platform.[1][2]
Education & Early Life
Weber Woo is from Shanghai, China. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Harbin University of Commerce, graduating in 2007, and later pursued an MBA at Shanghai Jiao Tong University from 2011 to 2013. During his MBA studies in 2012, Woo encountered cryptocurrency for the first time after reading an article about Bitcoin's use in Iran as a means to circumvent economic sanctions.
In 2013, Woo's interest in Bitcoin grew as he and his friends began mining the cryptocurrency. From 2013 to 2016, he concentrated on Bitcoin mining and trading, managing a facility in Yunnan and Sichuan provinces in China with 100,000 mining machines, mainly owned by customers.
By the end of 2016, he initiated a mining pool business, including BTC, ETH, ETC, ZEC, SC, and DCR in the portfolio, and at one point, managed 5% of the global ETH computing power. In early 2017, Woo invested in a cryptocurrency exchange in China, which ceased operations in September 2017 due to new regulatory policies.[1][3][4]
XT Exchange
In mid-2018, Weber Woo co-founded the XT Exchange in Seychelles, with its headquarters in Hong Kong. His experience losing Bitcoin in the MT. Gox hack in 2014 underscored the importance of security, leading him to prioritize stringent security measures at XT Exchange.
Starting XT Exchange during a bear market allowed Woo and his team to remain adaptable and focused. They aimed to develop an exchange that emphasizes user protection and responsiveness to user needs. Aware of the cyclical nature of the cryptocurrency market, Woo aimed to prepare XT Exchange for future market upswings.
Woo served as CEO of XT Exchange until January 2023, when Albin Warin succeeded him in the role.[1][3][4][5]
