Education
Carol Mackinlay’ education began with her undergraduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in Applied Mathematics. After her undergraduate studies, Carol pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the USC Marshall School of Business, where she graduated with a full fellowship. [2]

From 1987 to 1989, Carol Mackinlay worked as a board consultant and financial strategist in the Western Region financial institutions practice. During this time, she also served as the acting Chief Financial Officer for several savings institutions. [4]
In the following years, from 1989 to 1991, Carol Mackinlay joined KPMG as a Senior Consultant specializing in executive pay. Her role involved advising boards and management on executive, incentive, and employee compensation, HR planning, strategic evaluation, organizational analysis, performance management, and financial modeling. From 1991 to 1995, Carol became a Partner and Board Member at Compensation & Performance Management, Inc. This boutique consulting firm focused on providing advice to public and private company boards and management. Her responsibilities included guiding clients on various aspects of compensation, such as incentive and executive pay, salary administration, benefits, performance evaluation, and best practices. Additionally, she conducted survey research, ensured compliance, performed organizational analysis, and provided expert witness and litigation support. [4]
In 1995, Carol joined Plantronics as the Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer. Plantronics, a global leader in audio communication technology, merged with Polycom to form "Poly." During her tenure, she played a key role in growing the company to 4,000 employees worldwide. [4]
Since 1996, Carol Mackinlay has been involved in the financing, acquisition, design, and development of residential real estate projects in Northern California. Her work with Blue Sky Design and Development has resulted in transactions exceeding $38 million. Notably, one of her designs, 4567 Opal Cliff Drive in Santa Cruz, received the San Jose Mercury News "Fantasy Home" award. [4]
Since 2001, Carol Mackinlay has been an emeritus member of the Board of Trustees at Second Harvest Food Bank Santa Cruz County. The organization is dedicated to ending hunger and malnutrition in Santa Cruz County by engaging and educating the community. [4]
