Loot (for Adventurers) is an Ethereum-based non-fungible token (NFT) project that launched in August 2021.[1]
It is a collection of 8,000 unique bags of adventurer gear, originally released by Dom Hofmann.[13]
Loot is randomized adventurer gear generated and stored on the blockchain, launched on August 27, 2020.[1][10] It is a collection of 8,000 unique bags of adventurer gear, originally released by Dom Hofmann, widely known as the co-creator of a video-sharing app Vine and NFT project Blitmap. At release, anyone could claim loot bags for just gas, and all bags were claimed in under 4 hours. Each loot bag contains 8 items: a piece for an adventurer's chest, foot, hand, head, neck, ring, waist, and weapon.[2][3]
Loot is an unaudited project. Bags #1 to #7777 were claimable by anyone and #7778 to #8000 are currently reserved for the contract deployer. [2][4] While the original collection was limited to 7,778 NFTs, there are ~1,316,005 bags of additional Loot. Hofmann named the contract TemporalLoot, but the community is calling it More Loot. More Loot has a dynamic supply and increases at a tenth of Ethereum's block rate. Hoffman predicts that about 250,000 additional More Loot NFTs can be minted each year.[6][7]
Loot is the first project of its kind with no company, art, team, or attributes. Loot is the unfiltered, un-censorable building block for stories, experiences, games, and more, in the hands of the community, at no cost.[2][17]
The founder of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin tweeted the following about Loot:
I think the @lootproject philosophy has it right: pretty much anything that anyone creates "exists", what matters is to what extent other people build upon it.[9]
Synthetic Loot (or "Synth Loot") is a virtual form of Loot that every wallet has automatically and does not need to be minted.[11]
Unlike original Loot which is generated based on a numeric identifier, Synthetic Loot is generated based on the user's Ethereum wallet address. Developers who are building on top of Loot can incorporate Synthetic Loot into their projects, allowing the entire Ethereum ecosystem to access their projects for free.[11]
1.5 million bags of More Loot (or "mLoot"), with ~250,000 more available per year. They are free to claim.
A cooperative, collective endeavor to call upon the ghosts of the original 2,540 Genesis Adventurers.
Adventure Gold is a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO), created by Will Papper, exclusively for Loot bag owners. Papper announced the DAO and the AGLD governance token in a tweet on September 2nd, 2021. According to the tweet, each Loot bag is worth 10,000 AGLD tokens. All bag holders are entitled to these governance tokens. In the thread following the announcement, Papper explains that the goal of the DAO is to set a standard for future derivative projects and bring some level of organization to the ecosystem.[16]
In addition, each Loot gives access to a single claim of AGLD tokens. This means that if a person bought Loot bags on the secondary market they might not be able to claim AGLD tokens if the previous owner already did that. However, according to Will Papper, the Adventure Gold DAO is set to decide on Loot seasons, allowing future AGLD drops. This would essentially mean that in the event of a new season, the current Loot bag owner will get the chance to withdraw AGLD, even if someone has already done this in a previous season.[16]
Users began to create guilds based on the items found in their bags. Owners of "divine robes," of which there are only 396 in Loot, set up their own community, along with a storefront for robe purchase.[5]
As of September 24, 2022, there are nine guilds divided by items and attributes:
On September 2, 2021, Bag #748 containing a rare Divine Robe of Fox, sold for 250 ETH ($946,925) on OpenSea.[14] [15], having extremely rare properties, sold for 199,999 ETH ($757,536) on OpenSea.
