Melvin Deng is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of QCP, a digital asset trading and investment firm based in Asia. With a career that began in traditional finance, he works in derivatives, treasury operations, liquidity management, and institutional trading infrastructure. [1]
Deng graduated from the National University of Singapore in 2006 with a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) with honors in Mechanical Engineering. He is also reported to speak four languages. [2]
Deng began his career in 2006 in product control roles, where he provided hedge accounting advisory to trading teams and supported risk management by reconstructing market curves. During this period, he contributed to establishing a trading business in Brazil and helped structure private banking derivatives operations, including the development of booking models and control frameworks. From 2014 to 2015, he served as Business Planning Manager and Head of Financial Markets, focusing on strategy development and governance improvements for the financial markets division within a changing regulatory environment.
Between 2015 and 2021, Deng held senior treasury and liquidity management roles at Standard Chartered Bank in Singapore. As Head of Treasury from 2016 to 2019, he was a member of the local executive committee, overseeing treasury functions under regulatory supervision and participating in the merger of the bank’s Singapore entities. Concurrently, and subsequently as Liquidity Manager for Asset and Liability Management, he managed balance sheet strategies, led liquidity optimization initiatives, oversaw interest rate and liquidity risk across multiple currencies, and executed funding programs. He also participated in industry working groups related to financial benchmarks and digital payment infrastructure projects in Singapore.
In August 2021, Deng became Chief Executive Officer of QCP, where he is responsible for overall business strategy, revenue growth, geographic expansion, governance, and risk management. His role includes overseeing corporate operations, regulatory compliance, and organizational development. [2] [3]
In April 2025, Deng appeared on the Tokenized podcast with host Simon Taylor and guest Gayog Schneider from Digital Asset. The discussion focused on integrating real-time risk assessments to improve market transparency, trading confidence, and capital efficiency, particularly in response to challenges highlighted by the FTX collapse. Deng described QCP’s role as a leading digital asset partner in Asia, serving institutional clients and bridging digital assets with traditional finance. The panel explored innovations in continuous margin calculations, the application of blockchain to enhance collateral management, and the importance of privacy and regulatory considerations in financial transactions. Deng emphasized the need for institutions to adopt real-time risk management in a 24/7 trading environment and discussed the scalability of such technologies, while highlighting how stablecoins can improve settlement efficiency and operational flexibility. The conversation concluded with reflections on the ongoing convergence of traditional finance and digital assets and the need for demonstrable proof points to support adoption. [5]
In November 2025 at The Bridge Conference, Deng participated in a panel alongside Christophe de la Celle (Selini Capital), John D’Agostino (Coinbase), Christian Davies (Relm Insurance), Nicolas Cary (Blockchain.com), and Evgeny Gaevoy (Wintermute). The discussion addressed the broad definition of institutions in the crypto space, encompassing traditional venture funds and family offices, as well as banks and hedge funds. Panelists examined evolving investment strategies and risk management practices, noting that institutional approaches to derivatives and hedging have become more sophisticated. They highlighted challenges for retail investors from high-leverage products, the growth and liquidity prospects of the crypto derivatives market, and limitations in capital efficiency for on-chain products. The conversation also covered emerging hedging strategies, the rise of stablecoins and prediction markets, and potential impacts of AI and digital asset treasury entities. The panel concluded by emphasizing the importance of sustainable practices to maintain market confidence amid ongoing innovation. [7]
In October 2025 at DAS London, Deng participated in a panel on the evolution of crypto market structures alongside industry professionals, including Michael Higgins, Evgeny Gaevoy, Jakob Palmstierna, and Justin Brill. The discussion covered the fragmented nature of crypto markets, noting that spot trading remains distributed across centralized exchanges, OTC, and DeFi, while derivatives may consolidate in regulated venues. Panelists highlighted the role of user retention, liquidity management, and modern prime brokerage models in maintaining market efficiency and mitigating systemic risks. The conversation also addressed the tokenization of real-world assets, transparency challenges in trading, and the importance of liquidity provision and capital efficiency during periods of market volatility. The panel concluded that trust is fundamental to the ongoing evolution of crypto market infrastructure, with clear operational boundaries and reliable market practices being essential for ecosystem integrity.
