Games for a Living (GFAL)

Games for a Living (GFAL) is a visionary video game development and publishing startup, founded by a team of industry veterans passionate about redefining the gaming landscape. By harnessing cutting-edge technologies, from AI to , GFAL creates innovative and immersive gaming experiences that captivate players and push creative boundaries. With a bold mission to decentralize, monetize, and revolutionize the gaming economy, GFAL is not just shaping the future of gaming—it's igniting a new era where players and developers thrive together in a dynamic, sustainable ecosystem.[1][2]

In April 2024, GFAL successfully raised $3.2 million in a seed funding round, attracting high-profile investors such as Supercell, Mitch Lasky, Heinrich Zetlmayer, Bonduc Bioscience SL, BCNBCNLVC, and David Fernandez. This latest investment builds on the $4.4 million GFAL secured from the successful launch of its $GFAL token in Q1 2023.[3][4]

Origins

Games for a Living (GFAL) was established in 2021 in the vibrant heart of Barcelona, by a group of seasoned industry veterans with a combined experience of over 140 years in the video game industry. The founding team includes Manel Sort, Trip Hawkins, Javier León (Art Director), Christian Gascons (COO) and Marc Tormo (CCO), further solidifying the leadership team. Entrepreneurs Carlos Blanco and Ernest Sánchez, known for their expertise in new technologies, round out the team’s impressive lineup.[5][9]
wikiGFAL was built on a bold vision to drive the next evolution in video games by focusing on creating deeply engaging, profitable, and sustainable gaming experiences. The company aims to revolutionize gaming with a new generation of games centered around principles of ownership, tradability, and standardization, which are designed to push player engagement to new heights.
The inception of GFAL was fueled by the need to address the pressing challenges faced by both Web2 and Web3 gaming models. In the Web2 space, market saturation has hindered companies' ability to thrive, resulting in economic struggles and job losses. On the other hand, Web3 gaming has yet to establish a sustainable model that balances enjoyable gameplay with economic viability, often seeing rapid growth followed by short-lived success.[6]

GFAL’s approach is designed to overcome these obstacles by rethinking the core of game development. By integrating concepts of ownership, seasonality, and standardization, GFAL seeks to build games that are not only entertaining but also sustainable for the long term. This model ensures that GFAL’s games function as continuous services, providing players with fresh content while maintaining long-term viability.[8]
