Education

Carol Mackinlay’ education began with her undergraduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in Applied Mathematics. After her undergraduate studies, Carol pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the USC Marshall School of Business, where she graduated with a full fellowship. [2]

Volunteering

From January 1998 to January 2001, Carol served as a Board Member for the Santa Cruz County Business Council. [3]

Simultaneously, she also served as a Board Member for the County of Santa Cruz Workforce Investment Board from January 1998 to January 2000. [3]

In the field of education, Carol Mackinlay served as a Board Member for Delta Charter School from January 1998 to January 2001. Expanding her philanthropic efforts, Carol assumed the role of Chairman of the Board for the Monterey Bay chapter of Junior Achievement of Silicon Valley & Monterey Bay, Inc., from January 2000 to January 2006. [3]

Career

From 1987 to 1989, Carol Mackinlay worked as a board consultant and financial strategist in the Western Region financial institutions practice. During this time, she also served as the acting Chief Financial Officer for several savings institutions. [4]

In the following years, from 1989 to 1991, Carol Mackinlay joined KPMG as a Senior Consultant specializing in executive pay. Her role involved advising boards and management on executive, incentive, and employee compensation, HR planning, strategic evaluation, organizational analysis, performance management, and financial modeling. [4]

From 1991 to 1995, Carol became a Partner and Board Member at Compensation & Performance Management, Inc. This boutique consulting firm focused on providing advice to public and private company boards and management. Her responsibilities included guiding clients on various aspects of compensation, such as incentive and executive pay, salary administration, benefits, performance evaluation, and best practices. Additionally, she conducted survey research, ensured compliance, performed organizational analysis, and provided expert witness and litigation support. [4]

In 1995, Carol joined Plantronics as the Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer. Plantronics, a global leader in audio communication technology, merged with Polycom to form "Poly." During her tenure, she played a key role in growing the company to 4,000 employees worldwide. [4]

Since 1996, Carol Mackinlay has been involved in the financing, acquisition, design, and development of residential real estate projects in Northern California. Her work with Blue Sky Design and Development has resulted in transactions exceeding $38 million. Notably, one of her designs, 4567 Opal Cliff Drive in Santa Cruz, received the San Jose Mercury News "Fantasy Home" award. [4]

Since 2001, Carol Mackinlay has been an emeritus member of the Board of Trustees at Second Harvest Food Bank Santa Cruz County. The organization is dedicated to ending hunger and malnutrition in Santa Cruz County by engaging and educating the community. [4]

For a brief period in 2008, Carol Mackinlay served as the Chief Human Resources Officer at Jawbone, a full-time position based in San Francisco. [4]

From 2008 to 2014, Carol Mackinlay held the position of Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer at Coverity. Following the company's acquisition by Synopsys in 2014, she continued to lead the Human Resources, Recruiting, Workplace, and Administrative Services as part of Synopsys' Software Integrity Group. [4]

In 2014, Carol Mackinlay joined Xero, a New Zealand-based accounting software company, as the Chief People Officer. Xero's dynamic company culture and world-class hiring practices were well-known, and the company was recognized by Forbes as the #1 most innovative growth company in the world during her tenure. [4]

From 2015 to 2017, Carol Mackinlay served as the Chief People Officer at Matterport, an immersive 3D media technology company. During her time there, Matterport achieved significant recognition, including being listed as the #3 fastest-growing private company by the Silicon Valley Business Journal and #26 on the INC 5000 list. [4]

From 2017 to 2021, Carol Mackinlay held the position of Chief People Officer at UserTesting, a company based in San Francisco. Her responsibilities included leading various teams and departments, such as Talent, IDEB, PeopleOps, Workplace, and Procurement. She focused on enhancing processes, systems, culture, IPO readiness, and global expansion. Under her leadership, the company experienced substantial growth, reaching a headcount of 850 employees across 14 countries. UserTesting received multiple awards, including recognition as a Best Place to Work by Fortune, Forbes, SF Business Journal, Builtin, and others. [4]

Binance.US

Since December 2021, Carol Mackinlay has been the Chief People Officer at , the United States affiliate of the world's largest exchange, . Carol plays a role in overseeing the people operations of the organization. [4]
