Wale Swoosh
Wale Swoosh (Wale) is an independent creator focused on bringing crypto content to the Black community on social media. He is a crypto X (Twitter) personality with over 95 thousand followers as of April 2024 and he also has a dedicated Discord server, Walehub with over 1200 members. [1][2][3]
Background
Wale got into crypto in early 2021, just before venturing into the NFT space a few months later. While completing his degree in Business Administration at university, he became interested in the potential of cryptocurrency. In 2021, during his final year of studies, Wale encountered NFTs, initially participating in day trading activities. As a university student, the opportunity to generate supplementary income through trading appealed to him. [4]
On how he started creating content, Wale began with experimentation in shitposting, albeit without much success. However, as time progressed, he honed in on his niche and discovered his passion for producing informational and educational threads, particularly focusing on developments within the Web3 realm.
"It was really just sharing my experiences or the other knowledge I got from trading NFTs from being in the space for a while, and that’s kind of how it all started."[4]
Career
Azuki
In February 2023, Wale joined Azuki as a Researcher in Residence. [5]
"The support of Azuki allows me not only to produce better content through a look behind the scenes, but also to continue to run this Twitter account, my newsletter and everything else completely free for you. And that’s important to me." - he wrote in a twitter thread
"Educational content, good Twitter spaces, all these things are common goods in Web3 and as we grow as a space this will only become more important."[5]
On how he got involved with the Azuki community, Wale said that he has always been a holder of the Azuki ecosystem in some way, whether it was an Azuki or through Beanz, and one day, founder Locationtba reached out to him via DM and said: “You’re doing a good job with your content.” A while later, he was given an opportunity to work with the team.
"I attribute so much of my growth to this meeting because it was a huge driver [to me] as a creator. I’m grateful to Azuki and Locationtba for being the first person to reach out and give me this opportunity." - Wale recounted to NFTNow[4]
Wale isn't doxxed because according to him, he didn't see it necessary at the beginning of his content creation journey. However, he says he would consider it as he gets more into video creation.
Who knows what the X platform or what my content will look like half a year from now? It could be very possible that you will see Wale phase two and not just the PFP. - he says.[4]
Content Creation
During the initial phase of his thread creation journey, Wale encountered challenges as his threads failed to gain traction. This went on for about 8 months with his content occasionally garnering decent engagement. [4]
"It is from the early days that was beneficial that made me grow from thread to thread to improve because I didn’t have the pressure of thousands of people reading it and criticizing. I tried to improve every time I wrote a thread. I asked myself, ‘What did I do differently this time?’ I found a good way to write the content itself but present it in a way that people want to read and want to share"[4]
Wale learned from his first few months that the crypto sphere was a fast-moving space. With this knowledge, he used to try to be the first to talk about a project’s news, he would try to produce content around topics that people were discussing in the space. [4]
He has created threads on various topics including: "10 reasons why NFTs are not going to die"[6], "The art of FUD: Why some NFT projects die while others flourish"[7], "Wale Watch"[8], etc. [1]
