Gate GUSD is a yield-bearing investment certificate issued by the cryptocurrency exchange Gate. It is designed to provide returns to holders by being backed by a combination of Real World Assets (RWAs), stablecoin reserves, and revenue from the Gate ecosystem. [1]
Gate GUSD was launched by the cryptocurrency exchange Gate on August 29, 2025. Gate GUSD is structured as an appreciating asset; Its primary purpose is to serve as a low-risk investment vehicle that generates stable, compounding returns derived from underlying assets, functioning as a bridge between traditional finance (TradFi) and decentralized finance (DeFi). The value of GUSD is intended to increase over time as it accrues yield from its reserve portfolio. [1][2]
Gate GUSD utilizes a hybrid backing model to secure its value and generate yield. The reserves are composed of three main components:
- Real World Assets (RWA): A significant portion of the reserves is allocated to U.S. Treasury bonds. These are considered low-risk assets that provide a stable source of interest income.
- Stablecoin Reserves: The fund holds reserves in USDC, which is itself backed by U.S. dollars and short-term U.S. Treasuries. This component adds liquidity and stability to the backing.
- Gate.com Ecosystem Revenue: A portion of the revenue generated from the broader Gate exchange ecosystem is also used to support the GUSD reserves and its yield.
Gate has stated that every GUSD is fully collateralized by this combination of assets to maintain a 100% reserve ratio. [2] [1]
- Minting: Users can mint GUSD on the Gate platform's "Staking" page at a 1:1 ratio. The process supports dual-currency minting, allowing users to use either USDT or USDC as collateral.
- Redemption: GUSD can be redeemed at any time, also at a 1:1 ratio. Upon redemption, users receive their funds back in either USDT or USDC, along with any accrued yield. This process is marketed as a "redeem-for-dollars" experience to provide user confidence. [2]
- Yield Generation: The primary use case is earning stable, compounding returns through the GUSD minting certificate itself.
- Spot Trading: GUSD is used as a quote currency in several spot trading pairs, including BTC/GUSD, ETH/GUSD, and SOL/GUSD.
- Gate Launchpool: Users can stake GUSD to participate in Launchpool events and earn airdropped tokens from new projects.
- Simple Earn: GUSD can be deposited into flexible savings products to earn additional yield.
- Collateral and Lending: It is accepted as a margin asset in Gate's Unified Account and can be used for borrowing or within the platform's Crypto Loan services. [2]
