BTCName
BTCName is a decentralized identifier (DID) standard designed to record names on the Bitcoin blockchain using the Ordinals Protocol in a plain text format. [1]
Overview
BTCName aims to provide a perpetual decentralized identifier (DID) system on the Bitcoin mainnet through the Ordinals Protocol. Unlike traditional domain names, .btc domains do not require renewals and stay with the owner until transferred. The .btc standard operates without governance, tokenomics, smart contracts, or DAOs, and only requires miner fees. It focuses on community ownership and simplicity, avoiding features like whitelists, bidding, and additional fees.
Ordinals has revived interest in decentralized BTC domain names by enabling text inscriptions on the Bitcoin blockchain, starting with the first .btc inscription on February 9. This straightforward system adheres to the "first is first" principle, ensuring uniqueness and community control. Innovations like the .sats domain, which introduced JSON code, contributed to the development of BRC20 tokens. Despite these developments, .btc domains remain notable for their alignment with Bitcoin's decentralized ethos.[2][3][4][5][8]
6D Meta
6D Meta encompasses 6-digit .btc names ranging from 000000.btc to 999999.btc, which can be minted for free under the "First is First" rule. The first three digits represent vertical coordinates, while the last three indicate horizontal coordinates, aiming to promote fair participation.
The range from 000000.btc to 099999.btc is designated as the ocean, 100000.btc to 899999.btc as open space, and 900000.btc to 999999.btc as volcanic veins. This framework allows users and project teams to develop freely within the 6D Meta system.[7]
