Edison Lim is a Singapore-based programmer and entrepreneur known for his work in the crypto and Web3 ecosystem. He is Co-Founder and CEO of Based (BasedApp), a Web3 consumer SuperApp, and Co-Founder of Suberra, a crypto payment acceptance platform. His career also includes engineering leadership roles at Zilliqa and Alta Exchange. [1][2]
Edison Lim pursued a Master's degree in Information Security from Carnegie Mellon University. [1] Prior to that, he completed his Bachelor of Science at Singapore Management University, graduating Summa Cum Laude. [2]
Edison Lim began his career in Web3 around 2018, building applications ranging from open-source smart contract tools to secure custodian software leveraging Intel's Software Guard Extensions (SGX). [2]
At Zilliqa, a Layer 1 blockchain, Lim led systems engineering efforts for its mainnet launch. He conducted developer relations, teaching Scilla smart contract development, and wrote open-source tools including an RPC-testing tool and a JavaScript SDK. His architectural work at Zilliqa included building a decentralized exchange (DEX), managing atomic swaps, and developing a programmatic advertising system in collaboration with Pepsi and WPP. [2]
After Zilliqa, Lim led engineering at Alta Exchange, a regulated private equities exchange in Singapore. Under his technical guidance, the company worked with Singapore's Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) to obtain a Capital Markets Services (CMS) license. [2]
Edison Lim co-founded Based (BasedApp), a Web3 consumer SuperApp allowing users to trade cryptocurrencies, equities, and prediction markets through a single self-custodial wallet. Users can also spend stablecoins globally via a Based Visa Debit Card. The platform is built on Hyperliquid-native foundations and is headquartered in Singapore. [3]
In February 2026, Based raised 2.7 million raise in 2022, when the team operated under the Suberra brand and focused on crypto payments. [3]
At the time of the Series A announcement, Based reported having surpassed 100,000 registered users and 30,000 monthly active users across five regions, generating approximately 14 million in revenue to date. [3] Based operates with a team of approximately 15, according to Lim, with plans to expand headcount across marketing, product, and engineering, including hiring for AI engineering and payments-regulation legal counsel. [3]
Lim has described the platform's roadmap as targeting expansion into "agentic commerce," and said the company's addressable market extends beyond active crypto traders to a broader base of users who transact but may not have deep crypto experience. [3]
In addition, Lim co-founded Suberra, a payment acceptance platform allowing merchants to accept cryptocurrency payments. Suberra's solutions cater to platforms including Shopify stores and support on-chain subscription payments. [1]
Based has an associated utility token, BASED, used within the Based ecosystem to unlock platform features, including tiered reductions on trading and prediction market fees, staking-linked access and tiering for the Based Visa card, eligibility for ecosystem programs, and cross-chain transfer support.
