Rei Chiang is the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Gauntlet Networks. Rei Chiang began his career in finance as a quantitative trader specializing in high-frequency trading. In 2008, he worked as a Trading Summer Analyst at Merrill Lynch in New York. From 2009 to 2012, he served as a Quant Trader and Team Lead for U.S. Fixed Income at GETCO, working in Chicago and New York. Between 2013 and 2015, he was a Portfolio Manager at 3Red Trading in New York, where his work focused on quantitative trading strategies for fixed income and commodities. His early career included financial data analysis and algorithmic trading before transitioning to the cryptocurrency sector.
Chiang joined Uber in July 2015 as a Senior Software Engineer on the Marketplace team. His responsibilities included work related to supply positioning, real-time incentives, and driver pricing. In February 2018, he moved to Uber's Self-Driving Marketplace team, where he worked on software systems associated with the deployment of autonomous vehicles. He remained at the company until June 2018.
In September 2018, Chiang co-founded Gauntlet with Tarun Chitra and John Morrow and became the company's Chief Technology Officer (CTO). The company develops simulation software for cryptocurrency networks that models the effects of protocol decisions related to security, governance, and consensus mechanisms.
At Gauntlet, Chiang's work has focused on simulation frameworks and quantitative methods used for risk analysis in decentralized finance (DeFi). The company's approach uses agent-based simulations to evaluate market conditions and protocol parameters. Gauntlet has worked with DeFi protocols including Aave, Compound, and MakerDAO.
