Sewer Passes are non-fungible tokens (NFTs) that were free to mint for holders of the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) and Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC) collections, released by Yuga Labs. These Sewer Passes were used as keys to playing Yuga Labs’ first skill-based minting game, Dookey Dash, where the players' scores would determine the rarity and value of their prizes. ^[1]

Overview

Sewer Passes were free to claim starting from January 17th 2023 and the minting process ended on February 8th 2023. Members of the BAYC and MAYC were eligible to one Sewer Pass each, receiving a Sewer Pass with a tier that ranked from 1 to 4 depending on which NFTs they held. A Sewer Pass NFT was sold for 25ETH, being the most expensive sale of a Sewer Pass NFT on OpenSea, as of February 28th, 2023. ^[2][3]

Owners of Sewer Passes were able to play Yuga Labs’ endless run game, Dookey Dash, between January 18th, 2023, and February 8th, 2023, aiming to get the highest score possible.
On February 22nd, 2023, Yuga Labs released Toad Mode, where only Sewer Passes without a score were able to improve their ranking, giving them a second chance to take part in The Summoning. They were given until the 1st of March to improve their scores, with the objective of collecting as many toads as possible. ^[7]

Tiers

Users were given a Sewer Pass grading from tier 1 to tier 4 depending on which NFTs of the Yuga Labs collection they owned. Holders of: only the MAYC were given tier 1, MAYC and Bored Ape Kennel Club (BAKC) were given tier 2, only BAYC were given tier 3 and BAYC and BAKC were given a tier 4 Sewer Pass. Tier 1 allowed the holder to play the game as it was, whereas tier 2, 3 and 4 passes gave the user an additional of 10%, 20% and 30% to their final scores respectively. ^[4][5]

“Different tier Sewer Passes will add different point bonuses to your final score. Here’s the breakdown: Tier 4 = 30% bonus, Tier 3 = 20% bonus, Tier 2 = 10% bonus, Tier 1 = no bonus.”

The Summoning

The Summoning is a mysterious event where players that have participated in Dookey Dash or the Dookey Dash, Toad Mode that have scored higher than 0, are able to transform their Sewer Pass to a unknown "Power Source". Playing for a higher score was advised, as it determined the value and rarity of the reward received, a key part of BAYC's first stage in their six stage roadmap: The Trial of Jimmy the Monkey. ^[6]

The Summoning, which was initially scheduled for March 7th, 2023, was delayed and took place on March 15th, 2023, in order to make sure that all cheaters are eliminated from taking part of the event and that the technicalities are in check. It was revealed that there are 8 different types of sources and the type that the user receives is determined by the rank achieved in Dookey Dash. ^[7][8]
