Park Kwan-ho is the Founder and Chairman of Wemade Entertainment Co. Ltd. a South Korean online game company that develops PC and mobile games. It is also the company behind Wemix, a blockchain-based decentralized gaming platform. Previously, Park was the development team leader at Korean game developer ActozSoft. [1][3][6]
In February 2000, Park Kwan-ho started Wemade, the online game developer behind the Legend of Mir game series[2], and the Wemix, a blockchain-based decentralized gaming platform. [3][5]
In 2009, Park took the company public on Korea's technology-rich Kosdaq stock exchange. [6]
In 2021, Wemade's valuation increased due to the rising popularity of its blockchain-based game, MIR4. As of November 2021, Park's stock value reached 3.3 trillion won ($2.77 billion), which made him the 10th richest person in South Korea who owns stocks in domestic listed companies, according to local market data provider FnGuide. [7]
Park, who was the largest shareholder of Wemade, owned 14.8 million shares, which is equivalent to 44.61% ownership. [7]
"MIR4 did not create something completely new, but what we have done is used blockchain to implement a system that could satisfy user needs"
says Park in a video interview from Wemade's office in Seongnam, south of Seoul.[4][8]
WEMIX was founded by WEMADE TREE, a subsidiary company of Wemade on January 29, 2019. The blockchain-based gaming platform integrates native coins, NFTs, and DeFi programs to generate investment opportunities for its users. It focuses on the P&E (Play and Earn) aspect for users to earn in-game currency that can be used to help with their progression in the game or exchanged for the native WEMIX token which can be liquidated on DEXs as fiat currency. [5]
WEMIX's ecosystem comprises various products such as WEMIX Play — a blockchain gaming platform, WEMIX.Fi — the official on-chain DeFi platform of the Wemix 3.0 ecosystem, NILE (NFT Is Life Evolution) — a DAO, NFT, and Life dApp platform that creates a civilization based on blockchain, PAPYRUS — a blockchain-based communication platform, WEMIX$ — a stablecoin issued in October 2022 on WEMIX3.0 mainnet with a fully backed reserve. [5]
Other WEMIX's products include; WEMIX Wallet, 40 Wonders, WEMIX Burn, Wepublic, WEMIX Scan, Exolorer, and unagi. [5]
WEMIX was removed from UpBit and other major South Korean exchanges (Bithumb, Coinone, and Korbit) on December 8, 2022. As of January 2024, WEMIX remains delisted from UpBit and the other DAXA exchanges.
Park continued to buy WEMIX tokens and, as of December 31, 2023, Park's holdings have reached approximately 17.77 million WEMIX, reflecting his ongoing commitment to acquiring WEMIX tokens. Park has already used around 19.1 billion KRW for his WEMIX purchases, leaving approximately 10.9 billion KRW from his initial 30 billion KRW commitment. He intends to continue buying WEMIX throughout 2024 with this remaining capital.[9][10]
"I am committed to both WEMADE and WEMIX. I believe that WEMIX has the potential to be a leading blockchain gaming platform, and I am confident that my continued investment will help to accelerate its growth."
said Park.
Park's consistent WEMIX purchases have been met with mixed reactions within the community. Some view it as a positive sign of confidence in the platform, while others express concerns about potential market manipulation.
