Treasure is a community-led Web3 entertainment ecosystem focused on AI-native collectibles, agents, and interactive experiences powered by MAGIC.[1] It evolved from a gaming ecosystem built around MAGIC and the concept of a “decentralized game console” connecting games and metaverse projects. The project’s earlier broad game-publishing and dedicated-chain model has since changed.
Treasure began as a community-led decentralized gaming ecosystem that connected games and metaverse projects through its native token, MAGIC. Its earlier vision was to create a feature-complete technology stack that replaced traditional gaming infrastructure with decentralized alternatives.[1] The project’s historical “decentralized game console” concept connected games and communities; its documented present direction is an interactive entertainment universe focused on AI-native collectibles and agents powered by MAGIC.
Treasure’s earlier ecosystem included a Layer 2 blockchain (Treasure Chain), developer toolkits, a marketplace for in-game assets, and a decentralized exchange called Magicswap. These components were connected through MAGIC, which served as a cross-metaverse currency linking gaming communities.[1] Treasure’s current documentation describes MAGIC as the central utility token powering its agent ecosystem.[1]
Treasure’s earlier ecosystem included games such as The Beacon, Smolbound, Zeeverse, Synergy Land, Knights of the Ether, and Wanderers.[2] Its game-publishing support and broad publishing model changed in the 2025 strategic pivot; the earlier claim that it hosted over 15 games as of 2025 does not describe its present direction.
Treasure was founded in September 2021 with the initial purpose of creating a platform where community members could buy and sell in-game NFTs.[3] The project was co-founded by John Patten and Karel Vuong, who envisioned a decentralized gaming ecosystem that would connect various metaverse projects.
The platform began as a fair launch project, placing small gaming communities at the center of its ecosystem. These communities were designed to be interconnected "through lore, guilds, resources, and MAGIC," allowing them to trade NFTs and collaborate using the MAGIC token.[3]
On December 11, 2024, Treasure launched its own Layer 2 blockchain called Treasure Chain, built on the ZK Stack by ZKsync.[23] In May 2025, after ratification of TIP-52, TreasureDAO announced that the chain’s mainnet would shut down on May 30, 2025. Users were urged to bridge ETH, MAGIC, SMOL and NFTs out of the chain; bridging in had been discontinued. At the time of the announcement, MAGIC-ETH liquidity had migrated to Ethereum and SMOL-MAGIC liquidity migration was underway.[12] The decision was described as a cost-reduction measure, including an estimated $450,000 annual chain operating cost.[12]
In April 2025, Treasure announced a restructuring in response to financial constraints. Co-founder John Patten returned to lead the project, while Karel Vuong stepped down. About 15 contributors had left or been laid off.[13][14][15] Treasure ended third-party game-publishing support and pivoted away from its broad publishing and platform model.[13][14]
The announced four-product focus comprised the marketplace, Bridgeworld, Smolworld, and technology for scaling AI agents. Canopy was positioned as a Bridgeworld mode.[13][15] The Beacon publicly announced its departure, saying Treasure’s changed vision no longer aligned with its goals.[14]
The chain wind-down followed TIP-52, which set May 30, 2025 as the planned shutdown date. Treasure instructed users to migrate ETH, MAGIC, SMOL and NFTs off the chain. At the time of the announcement, MAGIC-ETH liquidity had migrated to Ethereum and SMOL-MAGIC liquidity migration was underway.[12] The chain transition was part of the project’s strategic and cost-structure change, alongside the end of publishing support, rather than only a technical upgrade.
Treasure’s earlier technology stack consisted of several components that together formed what the project called a “decentralized game console.” Treasure Chain, the Treasure Development Kit (TDK), Magicswap, the Desktop Launcher, and platform services remain documented parts of that earlier stack; the 2025 pivot shifted the project’s direction toward AI-enabled interactive entertainment and agents.
Treasure’s AI-agent framework includes Neurochimp, which Treasure describes as the basis for agents with persistent memory, personality, and contextual awareness.[15] The Agent Creator documentation describes agents that can be created from NFTs or as non-transferable soulbound agents. Agents are designed to learn from interactions and retain memories; NFT agents may carry transferable learned skills, while soulbound agents cannot be transferred. The framework is designed for agents to operate across games and dapps, including playing, trading, and learning from experience.[16]
Treasure’s AI and gaming documentation describes MAGIC as the means to pay for agent compute and on-chain services, as well as upgrades and communication between agents.[17] Documented chain integrations include Ethereum L1, Abstract, and Ronin.[16] Treasure announced on August 11, 2025 that agents were live in Fishing Frenzy on Ronin; the announcement described agents fishing, cooking, diving, and claiming rewards.[18] The documentation describes some agent capabilities as being introduced gradually, and roadmap items should not be read as completed features.[17]
Treasure Chain was a Layer 2 blockchain built on the ZK Stack by ZKsync, one of Ethereum's Layer 2 scaling solutions. The chain was designed specifically for gaming applications, offering faster transactions and lower fees compared to the Ethereum mainnet.[4] Following ratification of TIP-52, TreasureDAO announced that May 30, 2025 was the shutdown date for the mainnet.[12]
The Treasure Development Kit provides developers with tools to integrate blockchain functionality into their games. The TDK supports multiple platforms including:
This toolkit enables developers to create blockchain-based games with features like NFT integration, token transactions, and other Web3 capabilities.[5]
Magicswap is a permissionless automated market maker (AMM) that enables universal token compatibility and in-game exchanges (GEXs). This allows players to trade tokens and assets across different games within the Treasure ecosystem.[6]
The Treasure Desktop Launcher provides an easy-to-use and secure way for players to access games in the Treasure ecosystem. It includes features like:
This launcher serves as the entry point for players into the Treasure gaming ecosystem.[7]
Treasure offers various platform services including:
These services provide the infrastructure needed for games to operate within the Treasure ecosystem.[8]
MAGIC is Treasure’s native ecosystem and governance token. Treasure’s current documentation identifies its utility as paying for agent compute and on-chain services, and its governance role as participation in emissions policy and protocol upgrades.[19]
The initial distribution was allocated as follows:
MAGIC has a documented total supply of 347,714,007 tokens. Its annual emission halving occurs each September 1 at 12:00 a.m. UTC.[20]
MAGIC’s earlier ecosystem functions included use as a marketplace unit of account and AMM base pair,[3] staking in protocols including Magicswap, Sushi, and games to earn rewards,[3] governance voting on emissions policy and protocol upgrades,[3] and a cross-game currency connecting gaming communities.[1]
Treasure’s current documentation describes MAGIC as the ecosystem and governance token, used to pay for agent compute and on-chain services.[19] The documentation lists Magicswap on Treasure and Arbitrum One, Uniswap on Ethereum, and Sushi on Arbitrum One as ways to acquire MAGIC, and describes bridging it from Arbitrum One or Ethereum.[21]
MAGIC is available on various exchanges including Binance, Coinbase Exchange, OKX, Bybit, and decentralized exchanges like SushiSwap on Arbitrum.[3]
Treasure established a Builders Program to support projects building on its platform. Its game-publishing support ended in the 2025 strategic pivot, and the Beacon publicly departed after the change in vision.[14] Treasure’s documented roadmap and product focus includes its AI-agent system, Smolworld, Bridgeworld and Canopy, and the marketplace.[13][15]
Notable projects in the Treasure ecosystem include:
Treasure announced on August 11, 2025 that its agents were live in Fishing Frenzy on Ronin. The announcement described agents fishing, cooking, diving, and claiming rewards. It also described integrations with Ronin, Axie Infinity, Ronke, CyberKongz, and Kanstars, as well as support for NFT collections and creator agents.[18]
Treasure's approach to building a decentralized gaming ecosystem has attracted various developers and projects looking to leverage blockchain technology for gaming applications.[10][11]
